The new and improved online web form is up and running, and all you have to do is fill it out and hit submit. If you are under the age of 18, we require that you print off the parental consent form that will be posted shortly. It was the second page of the PDF registration form that was posted for a short time, so if you already filled that version of the form out, don't worry about re-filling it in.
Volunteer Applications for Tsukino-Con 2012 are now Closed.
Tsukino-Con is hosted in association to the Uvic Anime Club and supports the celebration of Japanese culture, anime fandom, and gaming, and hopes to continue what Kei-kon spent seven years creating. We are currently expecting over 1000 attendees this year. However, like most community events, the event cannot run without you: the volunteer.
Volunteers are the wonderful souls that: setup, take-down, fetch things, clean up, mind rooms, help lift heavy things, man concession, man registration, make change, peace bond weapons, print maps and badges, roll change, guard merchandise, drive to Costco, fix laptops and other such technical problems, judge cosplay contests, wear yellow exclamation points from time to time, answer a con-goer's questions, post schedules, offer assistance, and generally help the staffers keep the convention (or attendees) from blowing up.

ConOps:
A multi-discipline area that involves a more significant time investment than most other departments. In addition to being able to fill in with all the other departments, ConOps also manages the general convention space and traffic between events, as well as deals with the majority of problems that occur during the convention. Shifts for ConOps will be longer than other shifts, and will be extremely activity intensive - both performing and directing others in tasks. Be prepared to dedicate the majority of the convention to this job. (Best suited for those who don’t have too many events or panels they want to attend)
Coat Check:
A volunteer job that requires handling cash and keeping track of valuables. Involves dealing with the personal belongings of excited con attendees; Care for items that may otherwise become lost or stolen during the events launched throughout the weekend. The organization is crucial in regards to avoiding confusion between belongings when returning them to their respective owners. Following the End Ceremonies and during the evenings, there will be lots of traffic. Therefore, orderliness by virtue of being methodical and well organized will help to quicken the process and make it as painless as possible. Keep in mind that this is generally a quiet job during general convention hours, so bringing along a book, laptop, or other entertainment is advised, although we will try our best to make sure there’s two volunteers on at all times.
Concession:
Handles money and stock for the concession. Needs to be kept clear of trash and kept well stocked in the case of lineups between events. Basic mathematical skills for correct change back to customers when purchasing concession items. Foodsafe is encouraged.
Video Room Monitor:
Responsible for watching over video rooms and maintaining a respectful audience. Will need basic knowledge of video program using volume, play/pause options, and operating the projector systems, and keep track of the video schedule so that any issues can be reported to technical support. There will be technical support during con hours if need be.
Panel monitor:
Like the video room monitor, responsibilities include maintaining an audience that shows respect for the panel presenters and making sure that the panel itself follows con protocol. Also, making sure the panels end at the right time, and reporting any technical issues to Con Ops
Ex. If the panel calls for a PG 13 audience but the panel discretion is being otherwise explicit, then the monitor must bring attention back to the panel that there are young children present.
Registration:
Involves quick typing skills and focus during high-stress periods. A laptop is useful for the registration process which uses an a system developed by Mangabullet; Much easier than previous years using paper. If you do not have your own laptop, there will be some lent to the con for the use of registration purposes. For registration, you will be required to create an account with Mangabullet to access the system. Includes handling cash transactions and taking in food donations.
Janitorial:
Walks around the con grounds and removes litter, emptying overly full waste bins, and removes harmful objects eg, broken glass from bottles. It is encouraged to wear gloves and sturdy foot wear when on shift. Gloves, cleaning supplies, and other such supplies will be provided by the convention. We know this doesn’t sound appealing, but we definitely need at least 1 girl to do sweeps of the ladies washrooms.
Video Games Room Monitor:
Signing out games to attendees in the games room, making sure things are kept in order, making sure nothing gets damaged or stolen, and making sure that any technical issues get reported to technical support.
Event Services Personnel (ESP):
Must be above the age of 18 as of February 17th, 2012. In charge of maintaining safety for attendees by issuing warnings to individuals behaving recklessly, or escort individuals out of the convention if needed. Also, Security will be asked to check badges of individuals if they are not obvious, and check both badges and ID of individuals wishing to enter 18+ panels and/or events. In addition, this job will include working closely with the vendors to ensure that their goods and property are kept intact and secured.
Logistics (Subgroup of Con Ops, also known as gophering):
This job requires individuals to act as runners or messengers between rooms and buildings, with the potential of being sent on trips to assist drivers in food runs for the staff, or to pick up supplies, etc. This job has a very vague description, since it requires individuals to be flexible, quick on their feet and good at identifying people, places, and things. This is probably the job for you if you don’t like to stay in one place, and don’t mind being sent all over the convention.

1) All volunteers must complete the volunteer form, and submit it no later than January 31st, 2012.
i) You are now able to fill out and submit forms online, so that there is less concern about hunting down the volunteer coordinator or the chairman.
2) Volunteers will be asked to attend all training meetings for their departments once they have submitted their forms. If there is a problem that makes anyone unable to attend, please make sure that arrangements will be made prior to the meeting. You may be asked to change departments if you are unable to attend the training sessions.
3) For any of the benefits of volunteering, a minimum of twelve (12) hours must be volunteered over the course of the weekend, although this can include set up if you are asked to assist with that. If you are only volunteering for one day, you may be admitted for that day without paying entry, but you will be asked to for the other days unless you volunteer for eight hours on that day, then you may get into the con the next day for free as well.
4) Set up is going to be arranged and coordinated by the head of Con-Ops, and there will be information on that later on once we know more details.
5) Take down is a very important part of the convention, and as such we will need as many people for this as possible. The head of Janitorial and the head of Con-Ops will be running this, and further details will come later.
