Frequently Asked Questions
Why the name change?Well, it's mostly that Kei-Kon was run by different people. When those people left for far-off places, they left the running of the convention to us new people! They requested upon leaving that the name retire with them. And that my dears, is how Tsukino-Con was born.
So, what is this convention even about?
The majority of the convention deals with Japanese animation - anime for short. Yes, I know most of you already know this, but in case you didn't, well now you do! We do have lots of other events and activities however, such as crafts, how-to panels, art panels, contests and more.
Are there rules for this convention?
Well yes, obviously. The general UVic rules apply, and the convention rules are basically 'Don't be an idiot.' For more information on this, attend the Con-Etiquette panel which will run directly after Opening Ceremonies.
Also please see our Rules Page and Weapons Policy.
1. No Weapons: No real weapons are allowed on the convention grounds. Anything in a costume that is weapon-like in appearance must be peacebonded.
2. Area Restrictions: We only have the bottom floor the the Engineering and Computer Science building booked this year. Because of security issues, it has been request that we be careful to keep off the upper floors of the building. Consequently, going above the first floor of the convention will result in you being banned from the convention.
3. Respect your fellow con-goers: Don't make others uncomfortable. We want this to be a fun experience for everyone, so respect people around you. Along with this are general rules of no violent behaviour, etc.
4. Keep clear of exits and hallways: Beyond the whole fire-code thing which we need to pay attention to, this allows for mobility, which makes everyone more happy.
5. Listen to the con-staff: If a staff member or volunteer tells you something, listen to what they say. They're there for a very important reason.
6. Dress code: Bikini-level outfits are the maximum level skin that should be showing. And no, this does not mean that you can wear a thong. Dress code discretion will be up to the staff.
7. Respect the people not attending the con: This is a University, and there are students, well, studying.
8. Two strike policy: This basically means you get one warning, where we will hole punch your badge, and the second one means you're banned. If it's something exceedingly dangerous and/or other behaviour deemed inappropriate, this can get get you banned instantly.
Why is this an animation and cultural convention, if you're mostly about anime?
Well, because we're not just about anime! We do have many events such as amigurumi, origami, and a Japanese Tea Ceremony, that explore other aspects of Japanese culture. Besides which, anime is a part of Japanese culture - pop culture!
When is this convention happening?

Should I get there early to register?
Well, we can't really stop you from coming to the university, however registration will not begin until 11:30AM on Friday, and you will not be allowed into the building before that point.
Do I have to register?
Yep. Registering gets you a badge, which lets you in to all the major (and minor) events at the convention, including the Dealer's room.
