AMV Contest
As many of you know, the AMV contest is a bit of a tradition at our con, where we show a number of videos and you guys vote on your favourites from each category. Every year we get to see a number of fantastic videos, and I look forward to seeing many more. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to put in a little bit of time to make an AMV for our contest, whether you are just starting, or a veteran video editor. The rules are pretty simple for submitting an AMV:
VIDEO GUIDELINES
- No subtitles (unless you add them in for effect yourself).
- You can submit as many AMVs as you'd like, however, you are only guaranteed one video having a place in the contest, assuming that you've followed all the other rules for submission.
- All AMV content should be rated PG-13. (This applies to both the video content and the audio)
- No pornography. Period. Nudity is on the edge, as long as it isn't excessive or graphic.
- Entries must be Anime or J-Culture Themed. Video Games are generally fine as well.
- Videos must be between 90 seconds to 6 minutes in length.
- Please cut out extraneous trailers and production clips.
IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE A SHORT CLIP EITHER AT THE START OR END OF YOUR VIDEO WITH YOUR NAME, DATE OF CREATION, SONG, AND WHERE FOOTAGE IS FROM.
You can submit your entries to : amv@tsukinocon.com
Please Note: All AMVs MUST be submitted by February 1st, 2012.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please title your AMV like so: TITLE WHERE FOOTAGE CAME FROM - SONG TITLE - SONG ARTIST (if multiple animes are used just say "various")There are 2 main ways to submit your videos:
- Via YouSendIt.com, Rapidshare, Megavideo or an animemusicvideo.org link. I cannot pull YouTube videos.

If you are having problems uploading or sending me your video, send me an email to make alternate arrangements (ex. transport via USB during a UVic anime club meeting)

Our categories are:
- General and Character Profiles
- Action and Horror
- Dance and Flashy Beats
- Drama and Romance
- Comedy and WTF
OTHER CONTEST NOTES
Due to complaints in the past about they way our AMV contest is run, there are some things I'd like to mention to get us all on the same page:- Being a small convention, we never get as many submissions as we'd like to make a good, strong contest to fill our time slot and make a worthwhile event, so, as we have in the past, we will supplement the contest with favourite staff AMVs. These videos are not eligible for prizes unless we have a way to get in contact with the original creator.
- Because of this, local submissions will be marked on the voting ballot with a * so that people can differentiate between them.
- The majority of the supplemented videos will be high quality - some of the best we can find, which we think is super cool because we have had multiple local submissions win against them.
- If your video doesn't win, this doesn't mean at all that people didn't like it. People vote for many reasons : favourite anime, favourite song, technical aspects of video, aesthetics, storyline, consistency, etc., and so results vary.
- A tradition in our con is our AMV Smackdown, which is where we pit the winners of the previous year's contest against those of the current year, to see which video is the crowd's 'favourite'. This event is held right before closing ceremonies on Sunday, and is far more casual.
- Disrespect and bullying will not be tolerated, and that applies to everyone. I don't want to see anyone ragging on a video that he or she doesn't particularly like, nor would I like to receive any angry emails because someone failed to read the contest outline.
Last, but not least, and I think it's the most important point...
- This contest is intended to be a FUN and ENJOYABLE experience for everyone. If you are uncomfortable with how the contest is being run, or have concerns you would like to raise, suggestions you'd like to make, or questions about anything that is unclear, please, PLEASE email amv@tsukinocon.com so that the issue can be addressed as soon as possible.
